Intro

In the last few days I’ve noticed that some people (in /r/reddcoin) have issues connecting to the network. This makes the Reddcoin Core client unusable, as you can’t complete the blockchain sync and cannot use the wallet.

I’ve had this issue a short while back myself and found a solution that fixed the issue. I’ve shared my solution in two Reddit threads (onetwo); got multiple confirmations that the solution also fixed their problems.

If you need any help or have any questions, leave a comment here or post in the Reddit thread.

Steps

Backup

Backup your wallet before we do anything. This makes sure you won’t lose anything in your wallet. (If you have no RDDs in your wallet, you can skip this step.)

There are two methods to backup, do both.

  1. Backup your wallet.dat.
    Open Reddcoin Core.
Use the menu to backup: File > Backup Wallet…

  2. Backup your private keys. Instructions here.

reddcoin.conf

Solve the issue by manually adding nodes using reddcoin.conf.

  • Make sure Reddcoin Core is not running. If it’s running, exit Reddcoin Core.

  • Create a new file named reddcoin.conf and move it to your Reddcoin folder.
    • Open Notepad (or your favourite text editor).

    • Copy and paste the contents of the link below into the text editor.

    • Save the file as "reddcoin.conf" (including the quotation marks).
Select a location you can find easily; I chose to save the file on my Desktop.
      ↳ Screenshot

    • Copy/move the reddcoin.conf file to your Reddcoin folder.
If that file already exists in your Reddcoin folder, keep the existing file and rename it.
      • Regarding your Reddcoin folder:
When you ran the Reddcoin Core client for the first time, the client asked for to select a location to store the data files.
        ↳ Screenshot

      • If you have a custom directory, that directory is your Reddcoin folder.

      • If you have selected the default data directory, then your Reddcoin folder is:
        • Windows: C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Reddcoin
        • Mac: /Users/USER NAME/Library/Application Support/Reddcoin
        • Linux: ~/.reddcoin

  • After placing the reddcoin.conf in your Reddcoin folder, start Reddcoin Core and check if you can connect to the network.

Final result should look something like this: screenshot.
